Sulcata Tortoises, sometimes called African Spurred
Tortoises, are the largest of all African tortoises. They can grow to be over two feet long and weigh well over 100 pounds.
Sulcatas are the third largest species of tortoises in the
world. Only Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises grow bigger.

This
big Sulcata Tortoise is my pet. He has a large area of Bermuda and St.
Augustine grasses on which to roam and graze.
Although he looks intimidating (he is 24 inches long and
weighs 90+ lbs.) he is quite friendly, except on cold, rainy days when
he can be quite grumpy.
My tortoise is the ultimate "green"
pet.
He cuts my grass (I haven't mowed in years!) and his by-product (poop) is composted with natural kitchen and yard
waste and used as mulch around trees.
