Do
you ever put new samples up on your site? Occasionally I'll post a new published piece or two. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous Internet users seem to think that just because artwork is online it is in the public domain and free for them to use as they like. This forces me to limit the amount of work I have online. However, it doesn't mean I don't have lots of illustration samples to show to prospective art buyers. Please contact me or my agent if you want to see more of my work. |

I've written a children's book, can you illustrate it for me?
Usually a writer submits their story to a publisher. If it's accepted for
publication the story illustrations are then assigned by an editor and/or
art director to an illustrator they feel most appropriately fits
the style of the writing. So, to answer the question: No. I only accept illustration assignments that come directly from a publishing house.

| Can you tell us more about yourself?
I have
been creating freelance illustrations professionally for over
two decades. Illustrating everything from advertisements to
children's books to educational clip art to zoo publications. When I can find the time, I also paint and sculpt. ( And no, this art is not for sale. Refer to item #6 above for the reason why.) My hobbies include archeology, herpetology, and tinkering with new inventions. I also like collecting hockey memorabilia, old books, old toys, and other old things. I'm married to an elementary school educator and we have one child. We also have a very spoiled domesticated feline and a huge tortoise that mows the grass for us. (Really! Click here to see his picture.) I live in Arizona. To find out more about Arizona click

Are you the same Mark
Hicks...
...that authored books about fishing? No. ...the actor/stuntman? No. (Although I was on a local television station's edition of Romper Room School two times when I was a little kid. Click here to see my picture.) ...the minister? Heck no. |

Do you have a blog? No. I just don't have the time. I'm a freelance artist; between creating and promoting my artwork I have no spare time to pen inane ramblings about my life. |
